Following team’s best regular season finish, the Washington Justice qualify through play-ins to fight for a chance at the championship

Washington, D.C., Sept 21, 2021 - The Washington Justice, D.C.'s Overwatch League franchise, qualified for the 2021 Overwatch League Playoffs on September 5th by defeating the Houston Outlaws 3-2. This year, the playoffs will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii in partnership with the University of Hawaii. This innovative partnership ensures competitive integrity for North American teams as they compete in global competition with rival teams in Asia.

“We are incredibly proud of our competitive results this year,” says Grant Paranjape, VP of Esports at the Washington Justice. “After a strong start to the season, we’ve really seen our players and coaches persevere through challenging circumstances and create unique strategies to lead our team to success. I believe we are going into the playoffs with the right mindset and the belief that our best Overwatch is still to come. We are very thankful to all of our fans, especially those who came out to support the team and cheer them on in person at our live watch party events throughout the year, and can’t wait to welcome those fans who plan on attending our watch party on Tuesday, September 21st as we take on the Dallas Fuel.”

The team has been in a 10 day “bootcamp” at the Washington Justice Practice Facility in Penn Quarter before flying to Hawaii and will stay on the island for another ten days to adjust to the University of Hawaii facility, to do media promotion, and to compete in the last leg of the season.

“Events DC is a proud supporter of the Washington Justice, and we wish the team best of luck in the 2021 Overwatch Playoffs,” said Greg O’Dell, president and CEO of Events DC. “We look forward to continuing our thriving partnership with the Justice to support and develop our local esports community this year and beyond.”

This year, the Justice finished as a top 6 North American team with a 9-7 regular season record. The first play-in match was against the Paris Eternal, resulting in a 3-0 victory for the Justice. They punched their ticket to Hawaii the following day after a close battle against the Houston Outlaws, with several key players stepping up to secure a spot in the global Overwatch League playoffs.
