Hoop Culture announced the Capital All-Star Team for the 50th Annual Hoop Culture Capital Classic presented by Events DC today. The nation’s most legendary high school basketball All-American Game will be played on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC.

“We are thrilled to bring the Capital Classic back to the Entertainment & Sports Arena this April,” said Raj Rajkotia, CEO and founder of Loot Mogul.

“The Capital All-Star Team represents the best and the brightest that the DMV has to offer,” said Events DC President and CEO Angie M. Gates. “The Entertainment & Sports Arena is a spectacular venue for these athletes and their fans as they represent the District of Champions!”

The Capital All-Stars will be led by Maryland Gatorade State Player of the Year and University of Illinois commit Amani Hansberry, as well as St. Frances Academy star and University of Maryland commit, Jahnathan Lamothe.

“It is important that we bring this game back to national prominence,” Hansberry said. “I am thrilled to be a part of it, and look forward to earning a victory for the Capital All-Stars.”

Ricky Goings, director of Player Engagement and Alumni Relations for the Capital Classic, added, “The Capital All-Stars are well positioned to defend the DMV’s turf against what will be a strong U.S. All-Star team. We look forward to hosting a competitive game as part of our 50th Anniversary.”

Hayfield Secondary School Head Coach Carlos Poindexter accepted the invitation to coach The Capital Team. His Hayfield teams are 62-1 in the last two years, winning two straight Virginia State Championships.

It will also be the first look at Braden Pierce, the seven-foot tall, University of Maryland commit, who will be on the court with his future Terrapin teammates for the first time.

The roster is rounded out with Austin Ball (Miller School of Albemarle/George Mason University), Carlton Carrington (St. Frances Academy/University of Pittsburgh), Carter Lang (St. Anne’s-Belfield School/Vanderbilt University), Greg Jones (Hayfield/American University), Jacoi Hutchinson (IMG Academy/George Washington University), Jamie Kaiser (IMG Academy/University of Maryland), DCIAA (District of Columbia Interscholastic Athletic Association) Player of the Year Lafayette Williams (Coolidge High School/Undecided), D.C. Gatorade Player of the Year Malik Mack (St. John’s College High School/Harvard University), Thomas Batties (Gonzaga High School/Harvard), and IAC Player of the Year Tyler Perkins (Landon School/University of Pennsylvania).

The United States All-Stars will be announced later this week.
